Cornerstone Logs + Black Crows 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

I am not happy with the light side of the blocks, or both sides if they are light blocks, but the results are interesting overall. I recently tried to get a good variety of real black and white fabrics, and went to three shops and still did not get a great mixture.

I like the design above but …

… next one above is better!

Very different!

The last one for this week is very different.

That is all for this weeks quilters Log Cabin Retreat … interesting, but not as much fun as the real retreat I went to last week! No ...

Cornerstone Logs + Bright Blue 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Impressive.

Oops! Can you pick the mistake?

I like the design above.

Another impressive design.

I like all of these designs, and despite not liking blue, I like the colouring.

Perhaps it is the purple patches.

That is all the Log Cabin designs for this week, but there will be more mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Juicy Citrus 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

The first design was very similar to the average Cornerstones quilt, but the second is very different!

I like the one above.

I like the one above too…. going to be hard to pick a favourite this week!

I think I can call the last Log Cabin variation a modern design.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat for quilters who like Log Cabin quilt designs.

More next week, mid week.

Cornerstone Logs + Hot Pinks 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Playing with this project over the next few months could help me believe that it is warm outside, but I doubt it! Cold weather affects my body enough to remind me what the weather is like even without looking outside. However, I love the colours, and the designs are heart warming.

Love the second one!

The one above is interesting!

Another interesting design.

I love the last one for today, and for this week’s Log Cabin retreat.

More Log Cabin variations mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Black Crows 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

A very interesting start to todays collection of Log Cabin quilts using modified colour placement in many of the blocks.

The second is not as striking as the first design, but interesting.

The design above is probably my favourite for this week’s Log Cabin retreat …

… or maybe the next one!

I like the last one … it looks like a layout designed by a group of quilters who are listening to dance music as they try to work out how to place the blocks.

It would be interesting to use these designs using Log Cabin blocks but using the same ...

Curved Cornerstones + 116, 117, 118, 119, 120 from Virtual Quilter

The first design makes me think of a spider web. Interesting.

The design above is interesting too.

I like the design above!

Another interesting design.

I like the last for this week too!

I love going to a quilt exhibition and seeing Log Cabin quilts, but am disappointed that almost all of them are replicas of age old designs … nothing new. My favourite Log Cabin designs include some of those age old designs, but I would love to see new designs too … some of them could added to my favourites.

Cornerstones in Green and Gold 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Starting this week’s mid week quilter’s retreat with a fairly simple design.

It is much more interesting with a few green strips replacing gold.

I like the one above, once again with green strips replacing gold ones on two sides of the Cornerstones block.

I like the centre of the design above … might have to play with that later.

An interesting design to finish this week’s mid week retreat.

More Log Cabin variations mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Black Crows 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

New project file started because I had over 500 designs in one. I saved about 100 in each of five project files and changed the colour combinations in each one.

A bit dark for me, but interesting design.

Like the design above.

There is an interesting effect on the computer screen of the five designs I have saved for today’s mid week retreat, where they are postage stamp size images ready to select to add to the post … the designs appear to by purple!

Perhaps I need another coffee, or maybe I have had more than enough already. Or ...

Cornerstone Logs + Bright Blue 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design which is from a project file which started when I decided one file was too big and I broke it up into five or six files with about a hundred designs in each.

Interesting!

I like the way the crosses are arranged in a circle.

All but four are identical Chimneys and Cornerstone blocks.

The last design for today would look good if the light and dark were swapped.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat. hope you enjoyed a coffee while browsing through the designs. More mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Hot Pinks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

This is a new project file which was born because I had a project with over 500 designs and decided to split it into five separate projects. In the process each of the projects took advantage of the new space and increased to try to fill the space while I was changing the fabrics. Just as well they were all virtual designs, as I save 12 meters of fabric for every design not made into a real quilt.

I wonder how many hours it would take to make just one of the quilt tops?

The only excuse I have for ...

Cornerstone Logs A 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

The last time I opened Cornerstones project file there were over 500 quilt designs, all in rather boring colours, so I set about dividing the file into some smaller files, deleted about 100 designs I thought were repeats, and I now have several files using different designs and different fabric choices in each one. I like both of the first two designs … no favourite there.

I would have liked a background fabrics with less black lines than the ones I have used, but got sick of looking through fabric collections, so these designs have got a darker background than I ...

Cabin Fever 131, 132, 133, 134, 135 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first design for this week’s mini retreat.

Second is very interesting. The blocks in the centre could be changed many ways inside the dark frame.

I am not impressed by the third design … too busy.

Much more interesting.

Love the last for this week.

More Log Cabin quilt designs mid week next week.

If ever I run out of interesting things to do it would be interesting to go through this project file using a mixture of colours, particularly in the centre area of the designs. It would need to be a long break from the ...

Logs on the Pile 81, 82, 83, 84, 85 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

Wow!

I like the one above, especially the curves in the outer edge!

Love the curves again.

Interesting.

Hard to pick a favourite, but the middle and right of the top row are high on the list!

Log Cabin Hideaway 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

A log cabin hideaway would be a nice place to be when the temperature goes up to 35 plus. I guess I will have to enjoy the air conditioner in town..

First two designs are interesting.

I am always amazed at how many designs can be found to use Log Cabin blocks.

This project file has over 250 designs, and it grows a little bit every time I open it, helped by the 50 plus variations of the Log Cabin block, including Thick and Thin varieties.

I love the gentle curves in the last design for today.

Cornerstones + 81, 82, 83 84, 85 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

Very interesting … and the corners are leading my mind to some modifications to make for future reference.

All but eight of the blocks in the design above are identical, but I like what they do to the overall design.

I thought I would like it better with more light blocks in the corner, but have decided that I like the original.

Saved my favourite until last … though I think I would like it better on a table than on a bed.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin mid week retreat … another collection of Log Cabin quilt ...

Logs on the Pile 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

Mostly Chimneys and Cornerstones blocks in the first design, but tipped on point in this project file.

Not many Chimneys and Cornerstones in the second design, but some Curved Log Cabins.

It is going to be hard to pick a favourite today … maybe the one above …

… or maybe the one above!

There are not too many variations of the Log Cabin block not represented in these designs.

Cornerstones + 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

I cannot remember if I was going to have a square on point in the centre, or four V shapes, but decided to keep it at the halfway point.

In my mind’s eye the square looks a little bit wider with that shape in the centre.

Love the one above!

Very interesting design above.

That is all for this week’s mid week break to examine some Log Cabin quilt designs.

Irish log Cabin OP 28, 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

I have a lot of fun mixing unrelated blocks to see what happens.

I usually get carried away by the blocks and just go with whatever fabrics I find first, and promise myself that I will play with colour another day, but that day rarely comes.

In this project file I love the textures created by lots of little squares and rectangles.

Cornerstones 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 from Virtual Quilter

Every design in this series use 64 identical blocks known as Chimneys and cornerstones, or simply Cornerstones.

That means you can make the blocks while thinking about how you will arrange them in the final design.

I would advise that you concentrate while actually stitching to make sure you place all the fabrics in the correct order, and try to add any part of your fingers to the design.

Once you have a quarter of the blocks complete you can start playing on your design wall, or a bed or the floor to see what happens when you twist and ...

Log Cabin Mixed 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

This project has variations of all the familiar Log Cabin, Chimneys and Cornerstones, Courthouse Steps and Curved Log Cabins.

Can you pick them all in todays designs?

I wonder how many different combinations are possible with a few colour placement variations are possible with this collection of blocks, and I wonder how many life times would be needed to find them all … though some computer nerd may be able to set up a program, but how long would it take a human to inspect them all!!!

I can see some intriguing ideas in each and every design.

No favourite ...
